JEFF HEMMEN Obituary

Jeff Hemmen Loved by his family and many friends, died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital the morning of Friday, February 26. Jeff was born in Seattle, but had been a resident of Tacoma since his family moved to University Place in 1959. Jeff attended Curtis High School and Tacoma Community College. His work life included time as a flight steward for Northwest Airlines and restaurant management. However, he spent most of his years as a driver of both long haul trucks and construction equipment. He was a member of the Teamsters. Jeff participated in a number of outdoor activities, and his passion in life was cars of any type, from fixer-uppers to pristine classic cars, including a O56 Chevrolet and O67 GTO. But what Jeff will be best remembered for was his love of helping friends, family, and even strangers. He was always the first to offer to help with a move, give a ride, working on a friend's car, or whatever was needed. He was known to be the best source in town for a free oil change to all his friends. Helping others was his greatest source of joy in life. Jeff is survived by and will be greatly missed by his mother Jane Hasselbring and husband Herm who live in Sun City, Arizona. His family also includes sister Cheri Urquhart and husband Murray of Bellevue, and brothers Dick Hemmen and wife Rosanne from San Diego, Steve Hemmen from Arizona, and John Hemmen who still resides in Tacoma. Jeff will be laid to rest with his father, Marion "Cy" Hemmen, in Hamilton County, Iowa. At Jeff's request there will be no service, but his family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.

Jeff,
Just left the Beach, packed, a lot of people loved you. Some of life's mysteries will never be solved. A beautiful day, felt like spring. The circle is a little smaller. We'll miss you.

Jeff, you left us way too soon. You will be missed by many.

Rae and I have many fond memories of time spent with Jeff, and we will enjoy those memories forever.

I will always remember the big smile behind the wheel of the GTO. Jeff brought out the genuine fun and laughter of many people, and I will remember that as well.

We share our deepest sympathies with all your family and friends.

There are plenty of great memories to share of my time with Jeff whether it be on American Lake at The Beachcomber or working the door at The Drake. I could always look forward to or count on many laughs with Jeff.
Jeff, the memories will continue to put a smile on my face!
