MARILYN FREUDENSTEIN Obituary

Marilyn Therese Freudenstein Marilyn Therese Freudenstein age 87, passed away at Living Life Care Home in University Place, Washington on Sunday, April 28, 2013. On October 3, 1925, she was born in Tacoma, Washington to Clemence and Ragnar Wilton. After attending St. Leo's Catholic School, and graduating from Tacoma Catholic College, she taught second grade for two years at Sacred Heart School. On February 1, 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, Ben Freudenstein. They were very dedicated to each other and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Marilyn had many interests and hobbies. She was an avid reader, skilled gardener, a superb cook, as well as an excellent seamstress. Her sense of humor was delightful and she graced us all with her beautiful singing voice. Marilyn was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and made significant contributions to her church. At Sacred Heart Parish, she was a cherished member of the music ministry. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered for the L'Arche Community, taught Catechism, and enjoyed scripture classes. Marilyn Freudenstein will be very affectionately remembered for her complete dedication to her family. She embraced her role as mother with her whole heart. She raised six children, and cared for 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Marilyn also cared for many family elders, neighbors, and friends. She was a sweet, gentle spirit who spent every day in service to others. Hers was a rare life that was seen by all who knew her as a profound example of unconditional love. She is survived by her husband, Ben Freudenstein; sister, Anita (Bill) Glover; sons, Tom (Shirley) Freudenstein, and Max Freudenstein; daughters, Teresa (Deryl) Ross, Susan (Randy) Burke, Peggy (Tim) Nord; and daughter- in-law, Patty Freudenstein. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, David Freudenstein. Services for Marilyn will be held at Sacred Heart Parish in Tacoma on May 6th. There will be a Rosary at 11:30 A.M., followed by a memorial mass at 12:00 P.M. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. Please sign the online guestbook at www.mountainviewtacoma.com

Our condolences to Ben and family at this time. As Dean recalls it, the association of Ben and Marilyn was more of a neighborhood romance than one centered in high school. There were softball games and other activities on J Street, where Marilyn lived. Ben joined in them and it was obvious that he became very interested in Marilyn. Then the war took the guys away in the 1943-1946 period, a time when we received letters from our girl friends. Ben and Marilyn's marriage is an example of the great ones that took place once World War 2 ended. The achievements of Marilyn show what good judgment Ben had when he decided she was "the one".
