ALENE GILCHRIST Obituary

Alene Briggs Gilchrist Alene Briggs Gilchrist was born on April 8, 1931, to Edna and Burdette Briggs in Long Beach, California, and passed away February 25, 2011. Alene's devotion to her family left a legacy of love. She thrived as a homemaker: cooking, sewing, knitting and creating a warm home for sons, John (Barbara) and Gary (Gwendolyn), supporting them in all their activities in school, with their families, and in business. Three of her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Nicholas Gilchrist (Laura), Ann-Marie Whitfield (Joshua), Stephanie Legary (Tyler), and anxiously awaiting and busy knitting blankets for her three future great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Sharon Holder (Gene), and their children, Ed Holder (Stephanie) and Becky Woywod (Chris), and their children. A celebration of Alene's life will be held on Saturday, April 9, at Fircrest Golf Club at 1:00 p.m. (A private graveside service will be held in Long Beach at a later time). Because children were always her first concern, donations may be made to Mary Bridge Children's Foundation
