David Nation Obituary

David Kirk Nation Age 54, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Gig Harbor, Washington, surrounded by those who love him dearly. David was born in Cheyenne, WY and graduated from East High School in 1975. David attended the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology in Butte, MT, where he earned his B.S. in Environmental Engineering with honors in 1979. David was a registered Professional Civil Engineer in Montana, Washington, and Oregon. His engineering career spanned 32 years and led David and his family to Gig Harbor, WA. David was deeply involved in the ELCA Lutheran congregations in each community in which he lived. Love, pragmatism and humor shone through in the way David lived his life and cared for his loved ones. The breadth and scope of his knowledge is staggering and infectious, inspiring those around him to learn and understand. The peace he found in sailing and traveling reminds those he leaves behind to cherish the small moments in life. David's family was his greatest joy, and he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Grace Nation of Gig Harbor, mother Mildred Nation of Cheyenne, brother Matthew J. Nation of Gilbert, AZ, daughter Stacy Nation-Knapper (Ross Knapper and Shin-Yoo) of Toronto, son Matthew M. Nation (Jennifer) of Port Orchard, daughters Laura Nation and Megan Nation of Gig Harbor, as well as the many nieces, nephews, cousins, and adopted family around the world. David was preceded in death by his father, Edward Eugene Nation.

Grace, I was so shocked and sorry to hear of Dave's sudden passing. Dave was a wonderful guy to work with, and I learned much from hm during our time working together. No matter how difficult things got on the project, he always had a positive approach and was inspiring with his words of encouragement. I know that you and your family will miss him deeply. Also know that he made a lasting impact on others through the wonderful guy that he was. You and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. Kurt and Linda Gahnberg
