GRACE SHEEHY Obituary

Grace L. Sheehy April 23, 1948 - May 30, 2013 After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Grace left this world on May 30, 2013 at home with her two loving daughters at her side. Grace approached death as she did life - surrounded by friends, family, food, wine and laughter. She was a true crusader for peace, justice, and equality. She believed deeply in the power of love and taught many who knew her the true meaning of the word. She continued to appreciate the view of Commencement Bay from her bedroom window during her final days. Grace was born in Easton, PA. She graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia and later earned a master's degree in social work from the University of Washington Tacoma. She worked in the foster care program at Catholic Community Services for more than 30 years. She was a passionate advocate for children, loved her colleagues, and positively impacted the lives of many people. She was also an avid reader, crossword enthusiast, world traveler, and animal lover. Grace was predeceased by her mother Jane Magee and her father Gladstone Lillicrapp. She is survived by her sister Ellen Jacknain, her two daughters, Regan O'Leary and Molly Quinlan, and four beautiful grandchildren. Grace leaves behind a multitude of friends that will miss her greatly. We will always remember her genuine compassion, comforting nature, strength of spirit, humor, and wisdom. A celebration of Grace's life is planned for Friday, June 7 at 3 pm in the lower leverl reception hall of Saint Patrick's Church at 1001 North J Street, Tacoma, WA. In lieu of flowers, Grace requested donations be made to Catholic Community Services of Tacoma in her honor.

I am so very saddened by Gracie's death. She was my great friend in Philadelphia in the 1970s - where she worked as a probation officer. She was indeed compassionate, humorous, insightful and wise. Full of life and a wonderful friend. Lovely Gracie.

It's wonderful to read this tribute to Grace. She is missed on a daily basis. I can't imagine how difficult it is for Regan, Molly & Patrick, as well as the grandchildren. May photos and memories such as this tribute help carry you through difficult times.

Grace lived up to her name - but she just as aptly could have been named Compassion, Patience, Intelligence, or Humor. Her passion for the work we do had a great impact on the many people that were lucky enough to share her presence. I love Grace and will miss her.

My thoughts and prayers are with Grace's daughters, and with Patrick, who introduced this kind, lovely woman into so many lives. She was the personification of her name.
