Jennie Martin Obituary

Jennie Remita Martin 11/10/1921 - 6/ 4/2011 On that final day a new saint was called to Glory. Jennie was born on Little Big Goose Creek outside Sheridan, Wyoming and passed away in Stanfield, OR in her daughters home at the age of 89 years. Jennie moved to Tacoma, WA in 1940 shortly after graduating from Johnson County High School in Buffalo, Wyoming. Jennie took on a man size job working at Carsten's meat Co. in Tacoma. Jennie was featured in a full page Life Magazine story about woman doing the work of men called to duty in WW II. Not too long arriving in Tacoma, this little cowgirl caught the eye of soon to be husband of nearly 68 years Paul Martin. Jennie and Paul were married in July of 1943 prior to Paul's deployment in WW II. They lived the latter years of life in Hermiston, OR. Jennie is survived by a son Jack and wife Suzanne, son Dennis and wife Diane, daughter Paula Otzenberger and husband Steve, son David and wife Shanna. Paul and Jennie have seven grandchildren: Kristel Fretas and husband Jeff, Eric Otzenberger, Erin Covert and husband Kevin, Matthew, Michael and wife Rhonda, Alicia Jamie and husband Mark, Brittany Holloway and husband Kane, and eight great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Jesse, Jared, Seth, Jonah, Emmeline, Emma, and Grace. Jennie is also survived by brother Dale Wilson. Jennie was preceded in death by husband Paul on April 26, 2011, by parents Marion and Robert Wilson, brother Joe and sisters, Doris and Norma. A graveside Service will be held on Saturday June 11, 2011 at 12:30 PM at the Echo Memorial Cemetery in Echo, OR. A gathering will follow at the Stanfield Baptist Church at East Wheeler in Stanfield, OR. Contribution may be made in Jennie's name to Vange John Memorial Hospice 1050 W.
