MADELEINE BORDA Obituary

Madeleine Borda Of Mercer Island, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend, went gently into the night on March 24, 2011. Madeleine was born in Seattle on May 8, 1922 to Antonetta and Trifone Macchia, of Bari, Italy. She lived her early years in Skagit County railroad towns where her father worked for Great Northern. The family later settled in Everett, and Madeleine went on to graduate from Everett High School and Everett Business College. In 1948 she married Louis Borda of Tacoma. The couple made their home in Seattle and began raising their growing family, moving to Mercer Island in 1970. Madeleine was a prolific knitter, talented cook, professional bookkeeper, and enthusiastic traveler, but her most ardent passion was being a mother and grandmother. Simple pleasures shared with family and friends made her the happiest. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Louis, their six children, Richard (Mary Lynn) of Denver, James, Thomas (Carol), Rosalie, Marianne Zech (Joe), and John (Becky), 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Swedish Hospital for their tireless and compassionate care. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Sunday, April 3rd, at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 4, at 11:00 A.M., both at St. Monica's Church, Mercer Island. Remembrances may be made in her name to Children's Hospital, Seattle.
