MARIE VACHON Obituary

Marie Kathleen Vachon At age 65, joined her loving husband Joseph where we know they are enjoying a never-ending holiday in the Hawaiian tropics of Heaven. They both found their love of the Hawaiian lifestyle and scenery while on vacation and continued to visit there every chance they had. Born in Tacoma, WA in 1945 to Frank & Lillian LaVergne, she attended Catholic schooling and graduated from St. Leo's Catholic High School. She was active in the choir and her love for singing followed her throughout her life. Marie married Joseph in 1966 and they were blessed with two children. Marie and her family enjoyed being with family during holidays and for several years, camping trips with family and friends. These were memories that have lasted a lifetime. Marie worked for the Tacoma Public Library system for over 25 years where she made some life-long friends, retiring to care for her husband before his passing. She was a Union Representative for the library as well. Marie was active with Catholic Church throughout her life, serving on the board, as a lecturer and a CCD teacher at various parishes. For the last several years, Marie found her home as a member of the St. Leo's Parish. She helped formed a widow's group to support others, helped to count the offerings twice a month and supported the Hospitality Kitchen. Marie became a doula in preparation for the birth of one of her grandchildren, volunteered at Hospice House, loved traveling and shared time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Children's International was an organization that she strongly supported for several years. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her mother Lillian, her father Frank and her brother Larry. Gone too soon, Marie leaves loving memories to her daughter Elizabeth Parker (Jeff) of Tacoma, her son Joe (John Weaver) of Valley Center, CA; her brother William Francis of Tacoma, her niece Diane Jensen (Tony) of Lake Bay, WA; nephew Kevin LaVergne of Florida, and other nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Benjamin LaRoque and Aaron Parker. Remembered as close friends are Charlene and Raymond Sharpe, Karen Boedecker, Candice Hanes and Peggy Lundin-Biller. A celebration of Marie's life will begin with a night of prayer and remembrance Thursday, January 27 at 7 p.m. at Weeks' Dryer Mortuary in Parkland. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Tacoma on Friday, January 28 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception. An informal procession will proceed to Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma for her burial at 1:30 p.m. Marie wanted people to remember that she loved her family and friends. Her wish was that people would pray for her and remember her. We will never forget all those that she touched and cared for. Marie, go in peace.

I am so saddened to learn of Marie's passing. I met Marie last year at the Fife swimming pool; she welcomed me, and we ejoyed our M-W-F time in the pool together. I looked forward to many years of friendship, but I am thankful to have known her and I know she is at peace now with her husband now and her heavenly father. May your memories give you comfort in the days ahead. Lovingly, Nancy Schroeder

Dear Marie

You were more than my best friends mom, you were my mom too. You supported me when times were bleak and were there to celebrate the good times. Thank you for being a great mom. Love Sheila & Chris Smyre

Dearest Sister Marie, yes sister, you were truly my "soul" sister. We could
talk about anything and you knew more about me than anyone in my life. You knew my core. I will miss you, dear cousin, but you will always be in my heart and soul. Some day I hope to reunite with you for a quick swim, game of cards or a good laugh. You were always there for Ray and I and we hope to always be there for Beth and Joe. My dear friend, God Bless and always hold you in His beautiful arms.
I will always love you. Your, Cousin,
Soul Sister and most of all Friend,
Char Sharpe

In my 22 years working as music director at St Leo's I absolutely loved spending time with Marie who was always engaging and easily shared her bright smile and laughter. I was always impressed with how giving she was...whenever there were needs in the community she would be right there in the middle of it...doing what she could to help others. Marie will be greatly missed.

Dear Auntie,I will miss our 2 am talks. I will miss teasing you about politics. I am glad I knew you as an adult, you taught me so much about humility, kindness, loyalty, what it is to be truly Christian. You never gave up on people, you always had room in your home and your heart. I thank you for being there for me in difficult times with my Mom, and although your death was so sudden, I am grateful you didn't have to suffer the fate she did.You were both such independant ladies! And lastly, thanks for raising 2 such lovely children who put sunshine in my life.

While saddened that my Aunt Marie has left us, and though I hadn't seen her for quite a few years till this past summer, I wasn't very much in touch with her day-to-day life. What I do know is, Marie loved my Uncle Joe with everything she had. For that reason Im happy for her as I know she is happy to be reunited with him. My heartfelt understanding goes to my cousins Joe and Beth, and to my Dad, whom I would also like to thank for making it possible for my kids and myself to see Aunt Marie last summer. A sweet and kind lady is how I will remember her.

I was saddened to hear of Marie's sudden passing. We became acquainted while attending a grief support group after the loss of our respective husbands in October of 2004. She was a real source of strength for me. Marie gave me several special little gifts for various occasions and she always took care to pick out something she knew you would enjoy. One such gift was a little porcelain angel with a votive candle which I have displayed every Christmas and had just placed back in it's box last week as I was putting away the last of the holiday decor. I like to think she is dancing with the angels now!
Fondly,
Karin Hunt
