OPAL KELLENBERGER Obituary

Opal Arlene Kellenberger Passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at her home in Tacoma, WA. She was born in Akan Township, Richland County, WI. on November 7, 1924 to the late Oscar and Olga Hanson. She had resided in Tacoma since 1967. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Emil Kellenberger, MSGT retired U.S.A.F., in 1988. She is survived by her children, daughter, Cheryl L. Kellenberger; son, Ernest R. (Marie Nguyen-Kellenberger) Kellenberger of Tacoma; and son, John E. Jr. (Regina) Kellenberger; and grandchildren, Paul J. Kellenberger and Cathryn M. Kellenberger of Pinson, AL. Opal was one of eight children raised on a farm during the Great Depression. She learned responsibility at an early age. When her father unexpectedly passed away in 1936, she helped to take care of the farm as well as her siblings. As a result, she was unable to finish high school. Surviving are her sisters Alvina Hanson and Ruthie James of Waunakee, WI. and her brother, Robert Hanson of Rewey, WI. Opal was a dedicated and loving wife and mother and she will be greatly missed by her family. She worked many jobs during her lifetime to help support us. She retired from McChord AFB Billeting in 1989 after more than 21 years of service. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Alexander Mihali, MultiCare-Good Samaritan Home Health & Hospice, Lutheran Community Services, and Pierce County Aging and Long-term Services for all of their support and loving care. A private graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Mountain View Funeral Home at 1:30pm to give remembrance to her life.
