Pat was a good friend and neighbor while I was in Lincon High School and spent many evenings walking and talking about life and the Marine's and he told me that the Marines's were the place to do your military time so I did. Pat remained a good friend.

I had only the pleasure of knowing Pat for five years as a co-worker and being his Personel Mgr. at Sears in Tacoma in the early seventies. However, I will always cherish that time in remembering his great sincerity and careing of people and his smile to go with his great humor. He will be missed.

I had one encounter with Pat McMurtry during his life and that was at Park Rose Care Center. I called the facility to inquiry on another patient and Pat answered the phone. He told me no one was around at the moment and wanted to know what he could do to help. He was the most pleasant man on the phone, introduced himself and we chatted for several minutes. I didn’t know who he was, not being a boxing fan, but my husband jumped out of his chair when I told him of the conversation.
Once we knew Irish Pat was at Park Rose my husband visited with him, toured his room and was invited to watch boxing movies. We truly hope that the joy Pat brought into our lives during our short relationship was equally as significant to him. He was a gem!

To my first childhood friend...I remember my father (Frank) and your father Bub(nickname) which your mom Maude pulled my aside one day and told me what it meant and to not call him that. My father and your father were always running around so we became fast friends. Oh the good ole days horsing around down in your basement, how time flies. Seeing you and Mike as time went on and we all moved on with our lives. One thing that never changed was our friendship. I just talked to you about bringing a DVD of you talking about boxing and I am so sad I never got it to you but I will give it to your family. Good bye my friend , I will miss you. My condolences and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Bob Shelberg

I am sorry to hear of Pat,s passing. We had many good games of racket ball at the old YMCA and good conversation. I saw all his fights in Tacoma and even went to Portland to see his bout with Bobo Olson. Rest in peace.

I can remember going to the YMCA as a young boy to watch Pat box and spar. It was a great experience as Pat would often talk to us after his workouts. Pat was a very gracious and humble man. We'll all miss him.

I always enjoyed talking boxing with Pat over the years. He sparred with my uncle, Dave Davey, who also fought in the Garden. He was a good man and will be remebered.
