Richard Heseltine Obituary

Richard "Bud" Lynn Heseltine 12-19-1930 to 5-5-2011 Bud was born in Elma, WA to Kenneth and Marguerite Pease. He later took the name of his stepfather Leroy Heseltine. Bud is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Heseltine, his three sons, Mike (Dorothy), Pat (Gin), and Rick (Darlene) Heseltine, daughter Carol (Scott) Bradley, grandchildren Emily Heseltine, Richard and Kathryn Bradley, Julia and Matthew Heseltine, and Jeremy (Andrea) and Brandon (Chanda) Nixon, and three great-grandchildren, Joseph, James, and Sophia Nixon. Bud was an only child, so his cousins were like his brothers and sisters. He lived in many different places as he moved with the orders his stepfather received from the military. Bud graduated from Bellarmine High School in Tacoma, WA. He then served in the US Navy for four years. He met Ann at the service station he was working at on Puyallup Ave., and they fell in love. They built a beautiful home overlooking the Narrows and raised 4 children there. Bud bought and ran Bud's/North End Arco from 1956 to 1992. This is where people found an honest and good man to take their car to for repairs and maintenance. Bud loved family more than anything in the world. He loved to have us visit and loved our family gatherings. Going to South Dakota to visit family was something he enjoyed and asked to do even in the last few months of his life. He made sure each of his children had a place to call home. He taught them all about working hard and being honest. He flew model airplanes, and that turned into piloting real airplanes. He loved to fly. He also enjoyed going boating, and taught all of us how to water ski. We always had rope, hammer, and nails to make rafts with, too. And we all know how he loved animals. They seemed to love him too. Most of the family pets were brought home by Dad. I have heard many people say that Bud was like a Dad to them. That's because he had a BIG heart. Friends and family were always welcome. We had many people live with us. He always forgave people and found the best in them. I guess he loved people as much as he loved those animals. Special thanks to Mom for caring so dearly for Dad, especially in the last few months. Thank you to Trudy Vander Laan and Julienne Donnelly, his two loving angels who watched over him. Thank you to Eatonville Senior Center, Hospice Care, The VA Hospital, and Fir Lane Memorial Park for all the help and support. Also, the people of Emmanuel and all our friends and family, we thank you. Please join us for a celebration of Bud's life on May 15th, 2011 at 2pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1315 North Stevens, Tacoma, WA. We will have a luncheon following the service.

I remember you as a loving Dad. I would love to hear you sign. Car drives with you singing and my arms wrapped around you from the back seat. Smokey Mountain, You are my Sunshine and The Old Master Painter were my favorites. You had a wonderful voice. I often compare you to Elvis. Yes, you were that good.
I miss you and your advise. I miss counting on you to be there for me. I miss so much about you. I prayed so hard for you when you were sick. You were a good patient. I couldn't believe how hard you would work to try and walk again.
I will love you forever.
Oh, Richard gave his son your middle name, Lynn. He loved you very much too.
Your only daughter,
Carol

Dad, I was looking for information on your Mom and this popped up. If you only knew how much I missed you. But I will never forget you telling me not to cry and that you had a wonderful life filled with people who loved you. I miss your wisdom and advice. Never stepping too far but just enough to make me think. I miss your songs and wonderful voice. I miss your hugs and kisses. You were the best Dad I could have ever had and I truly miss you.

To the whole Heseltine family,
I'm so sorry to hear about Bud's passing. I understand what your family is going through, having lost both of my parents this last year.I remember going to your house rather frequently growing up and seeing Bud sitting in his chair watching TV with the cat on his lap. I also remember having my first small airplane ride in the Musketeer with Bud and Rick going to Abbottford Airshow in B.C. I was hooked, because I then got my private pilots license not long after. I really enjoyed flying around with Bud and Pat in your 185. Thanks for all the great memories, Bud!

Two Boxes

God's Boxes

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me.."

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."

Growing up with Carol, I would stop by their house and talk with Bud and Ann, they always made me feel special. Bud was such a nice man and I'll always remember that wonderful, warm smile he had. I'm so sorry for your loss. It will be nice to celebrate his life on Sunday. God Bless your family.

As a old friend and classmate of Bud's wife Ann, I have fond memories of visits at their Tacoma home. He was a wonderful fellow with a great family. Rest in peace Bud.
