Roy Bartley Obituary

Roy Bartley, Sr. "Gone Gambling" Roy was born 8-06-1940 in Yakima. He unexpectedly passed away 3-24-2011 in Puyallup at the age of 70. He is survived by his wife Bev of 47 years, children Rod Lambert, Cindy Oviedo, Chris (Larry) Nevares, Doug Bartley, and Randy Lambert (deceased), ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, brother Don (Karen) Bartley, sister Barb Linger, beagle puppies Buster and Charlie, and numerous other extended family members. Roy proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from West Coast Fruit & Produce after 30 years of service. He enjoyed nothing more than just spending time with his family, as well as bbq'ing, going to the races, fishing with his brother Don, sipping beers with his drinking buddy John, and babysitting his great-grandson Jaxon. He loved traveling to Puerto Vallarta and staying at Paradise Village. When he wasn't working out in his yard or tinkering in his shop, you could find him at the Red Wind Casino. He loved to play his slot machines and keno. Special thanks to Dr. Petty and Dr. King. We appreciate everything you did for Roy. Please sign the online guest book and share a favorite memory. There will be a private gathering for family and friends at a later date.

You will be dearly missed. I loved how you'd say to Chris and I "what trouble are you girls up to tonight" You were always so kind to me and my kids too. I'm lucky to have your daughter as one of my longest and best of friends!
Love ya Roy. Rest in peace.

Dearest Bartley family, my deepest condolences to you all at the the passing of a truly great man.
Bev, your loss...such a deep wound in so many ways...my heart aches for you. All my love and thanks to you and Roy for being the best example to a young man so many years ago. You both demonstrated what family is truly all about - love, caring, laughter, thoughtfulnes, and selfless giving to all around you. You opened your home to me so many years ago and always made me feel part of your family. I remember the dinners, the trip to the mountains and so many other special times. I remember Roy's attempts to be firm with me and Chris when saying, "No honkey tonkeying while we're gone". But his glimmering eyes and faint smile always betrayed his kind heart. I always admired your home, so stable - full of love and happiness. I loved being a small part of it for a time. Your kindness to me in October of 1979 at the passing of my own mother meant so much to me- thank you! The last time I saw Roy was in 1991 during a visit to Tacoma when my father was dying of cancer. I loved his quips and sayings. He was a very handsome man too-the total package. You always looked out for him. I remember Chris and I were walking to the store one afternoon and you told Chris, "Get your father a sweet do his lunch too". Little things like that have stayed with me all these years about how to look out for your mate. It's the little things that make up a whole and complete life.
Thank you Bev (and Roy) for the sweet little things we all have from your example.
I love you. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.
Greg

I too worked with Roy at West Coast Fruit and Produce. He was so proud of his Children and especially his Grandchildren. He would try so hard to be the "Tuff Guy" but his face would light up when we talked about them. I was so happy to see him on FB because that is just something I would have never seen him doing. He was one of those stubborn ole boys or he tried to be. He truly was a dear friend and will be missed.

Dear Bartley Family, My heartfelt condolences for your loss. I remember Roy very fondly from his many years of service at West Coast Fruit & Produce Co.
I grew up around the business and I can scarcely rermember a time that Roy wasn't employed there. He was a fine gentleman with an easy going sense of humor and an excellent employee. He will be missed ! Sincerely, Bill Dowling

Dad you are going to be missed so much. Words can not really explain. To know you was to love you. The outpouring of support in your memory would have even shocked you ... lol.

You touched so many lives you have no idea. We had no idea! It's awesome really. Everyone has a ROY story to share. I can see you now shaking your head saying 'Jesus Christ". Those that really knew you, knows exactly what I'm saying. You had your own language we are all going to miss. Rest in Paradise Dad. You deserve it ... Love you!
