Sprague Morgan Stevens

Sprague Morgan Stevens, DDS Sprague Morgan Stevens, DDS, of Leavenworth, WA, died April 8, 2011. He was born September 25, 1931 in Boise to Sprague and Gwendolen (Smith) Stevens. Growing up in Boise with sisters Sharon and Carol, Sprague attended school there, graduating from Boise HS in 1949. Sprague enrolled at Boise Jr. College (Boise State) for two years, then enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War, serving as a dental technician 1951-1955. He returned to BJC to finish pre-dental, then attended Northwestern Dental School, graduating in 1961. He married Barbara Ellis in 1961, and they lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas while Sprague served as a dentist in US Army for two years. They then lived in Jerome, ID, Edmonton, Alberta, and Edmonds, WA where he practiced dentistry. Son, James, joined the family in 1964, son, Robert, in 1970, and daughter, Mara, in 1973. Sprague served as the Dental Director at Rainier School in Buckley, WA for 16 + years, retiring in 1991. He continued to work part-time with challenged adults as a dentist as Yakima Valley School, in Selah, WA, and through the DECOD (Dental Education in Care for the Disabled) program at the University of Washington for many years. He met his wife, Joyce, in 1981, on a Mountaineer hike, and subsequently they were very actively engaged in climbing, hiking, skiing the mountains of the northwest. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home, his children, James, of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Robert (Christina) of Whitefish, MT, and Mara (Brian) of Kenmore, WA, his sister, Carol McCord of Boise, sister-in-law, Jennette Britton, of Kenmore, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs, Hank and Gus. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Harmsen. Graveside services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Leavenworth, WA, Saturday, April 16, 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sprague's name may be given to The Icicle Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, PO Box 271, Leavenworth, WA 98826.
