Thomas Gilmore Obituary

Thomas E. Gilmore Jr. A lifelong resident of Dash Point, WA, Tom died at home on May 4, 2011 at age 93. Tom was born in Tacoma in 1917 to parents Tom and Harriet Gilmore, graduated from Stadium HS in 1937, and joined the US Navy as a Communication Technician, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise in the Pacific during WWII. Tom met and married the love of his life, Remona Wood, in 1942. Tom retired from the Navy after 24 years in 1960. He returned to his family home in Dash Point and worked a second career with Hooker Chemical Co. in Tacoma retiring in 1979. Tom loved family most of all, and Ham Radio, where he had many friends around the world, especially his good friend Del Kohler of Browns Point, WA. Tom enjoyed gardening, camping, boating, and fishing. He also enjoyed the annual reunions of Navy veterans of the USS Enterprise CV-6 Association. He had a gift for friendship. Tom was an active member of St Theresa Catholic Church from its roots as a mission church in the 1920s in Dash Point, later moving to the present location in Federal Way, WA. Tom served there in the St Vincent de Paul Society. Tom's love of God was central to how he lived. He was a good neighbor and friend to many. Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Remona Wood Gilmore, his twin infant daughters, and his beloved daughter Sheila. He is survived by his sister Harriet Gilmore Anderson of Tacoma and seven nieces and nephews. A Rosary Service at 10am Thursday May 12, 2011 at St Theresa's Catholic Church in Federal Way, WA will precede a Funeral Mass at 11am with a reception afterwards in the Parish Hall. Graveside burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Fife, WA.

Tom was a true friend of mine thru Ham Radio % a telephone call once in a while. He will be missed on the FRUPAC net 73s R.Rupe kF0SE

Tom was my instructor at BI, HAM radio friend, we went on camping trips together with other FRUPAC folks, especially at "Mona" Campground, Blue River ORegon. A fine man and perfect gentleman. Grady Lewis N7FCO

Wewill all miss Tom, he was a great friend, was active going to many reunions of NCVA as well as mini reunions in Oregon. I checked him into the FRUPAC nets many times as Net Control. He was a good christian man, My deepest sympathy go out to his family . Bill Jackson.

My sincere condolences for your loss. I never met Tom personally, but talked with him many times via amateur radio on the FRUPAC nets. He was a friend to everyone and was always willing to help new amateur radio operators.
