Virginia Scarff Obituary

Virginia D. Scarff Virginia D. Scarff was born Nov. 18, 1924 to Meretha (Peggy) and Myrle Neal, Tacoma WA and passed away March 24,2011. She lived with her parents at "Glenn Dawn Park", a popular lake resort and dance hall in the Federal Way area. She is survived by her son Neal Gest and predeceased by her son Gary. Virginia worked at several Tacoma/Seattle auto dealerships and companies as secretary/office manager. Virginia and Cal Scarff were married June 17, 1967, and lived at Lakota on Puget Sound with Neal and Cal's children Colleen, Greg, and Doug. The family enjoyed skiing at Crystal Mt., and water skiing in front of their waterfront home. Virginia was very active in the Federal Way community. As a member of the Fed. Way library board she led her garden club members in re-Iandscaping the grounds. As an active member of the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club she founded a celebrity-amateur golf tournament, raising funds for childrens' activities. She convinced Bruce King, a well-known Seattle sportscaster, to head up the tournament; it continues 30 years later, and during Virginia's leadership raised over a half million dollars. Virginia and a friend golfer from Fircrest founded the WA State Jr. Golf Assoc., the first and only in the state. It continues to sponsor many golf opportunities for young people. Virginia continued her love of golf at Ironwood in Palm Desert, CA, where she and Cal spent part of each year. In later years, "Nana", as she became known to her nine grandchildren, forgot many things, including her golf score. However she never forgot her love for her garden, for mountain vistas, and never lost her natural grace and beauty. She never forgot her love for her family, and especially for Cal. We will never forget her. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association or the Federal Way Boys and Girls Club. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday April 2, 2011 at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn, WA. Cal & Family,

We were saddened to hear that Virginia had passed away. We so wish to extend to you all our deepest sympathy. Bruce remembers her fondly . . . her enthusiasm and talent for organization when she started the Golf Tournament at Twin Lakes and asked Bruce to be host. It was the beginning of a long attachment with the Federal Way Boys & Girls Club and a most enjoyable one! Virginia made it happen! She was a most gracious, hospitable and energetic woman. Please know that your whole family will be in our prayers as you grieve.

I would like to extend my personal sympathy to you all. My heart is very heavy for your tremendous loss. Although I only knew Virginia for a short time she managed to touch my heart greatly. She was a lovely, lovely woman. I hope all your wonderful memories of her help you find peace during this very dificult time.

I was the Branch Executive Director of the Federal Way (WA) Boys & Girls Club for 17 years. During this time Virginia was the co-founder and chair of our celebrity golf tournament. It was one of the first of its kind, and very successful. Virginia was also a Board member and Board President of the Club's Board of Directors. She and Cal were always gracious and giving people to their family, in business and to the community. I am honored to have known Virginia, and to have worked beside her. She she will always have a treasured place in my memory. Virginia was a "lady" in every sense of the word. Respectfully, Lynn James Templeton, Lynden, Washington
