Derl K. Rose LEBANON, Va. Derl K. Rose, 79, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, in Russell County Medical Center. Born March 16, 1931, in Dickenson County, a son of the late Carson Rose and the late Maude Worley Rose, he was a retired employee of the Clinchfield Coal Company, having worked at the Moss No. 3 Preparation Plant and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a member and deacon of the Green Valley Baptist Church and also served as a greeter at the church and was a member of the Russell County Gideons Camp. He was a 50- year member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 251 A. F. & A. M. where he was a Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master. Derl was a member and Past Patron of the Counts Chapter 180 O.E.S. and the Abingdon Chapter 182 O.E.S. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, he was a member of the American Legion. He was a scout master for over 30 years of Troop 239 in Lebanon and earned the Silver Beaver and Pioneer Awards. He was also a member and past treasurer of the Woodman of the World Lodge No. 410 in Lebanon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Clinas Fletcher, Jan Eddins, and Infant Donna Rose. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Berneda Rose; three sons, Byron "Bo" Rose and wife Debbie Rose, Tim Rose and wife Darlene Rose, all of Lebanon, and Mike Rose, Church Hill, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Amanda Combs and husband Bryan Combs, Woodbridge, Va., Jon Rose and Travis Rose, both of Lebanon; a great-grandson, Colden Combs, Woodbridge, Va.; three sisters, Lois Smith and husband Paul Smith, Harrisburg, Pa., Kaye Tate and husband Hall Tate, and Dotty Garrett, all of Lebanon; one brother, Worley Rose, Spottswood, Va.; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at the Green Valley Baptist Church, 695 Green Valley Road, Lebanon, VA with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher and the Rev. Doug Odle officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. prior to the service by the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 251 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon. Those attending are requested to meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post No. 9864. Serving as pallbearers will be: Jon Rose, Travis Rose, Bryan Combs, Steve Fletcher, Jeff Rose, Cody Rose, Bob McComas, and Ben Armstrong. deacons of the Green Valley Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends 5-7:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Russell County Gideons Camp, P.O. Box 2002, Lebanon, VA 24266; or the Green Valley Baptist Church, 695 Green Valley Road, Lebanon, VA 24266. Combs Funeral Service, 291 Fincastle Road, Lebanon, VA 24266, (276) 889-4444, is serving the Rose family.
