Barney Duke King BRISTOL, Va. Barney Duke King, age 55, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a gallant battle with IPF on Nov. 4, 2009, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bristol, a son to the late Robert and Neva Porter King. Barney earned his air conditioning and fefrigeration degree from Virginia Highlands and a business administration degree from Bristol Business College. He also had an IRD Mechanalysis Certification and worked as a predictive maintenance technician at the DANA Corporation. Mr. King was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include: wife, Sharon Shaffer King; sons, Mark D. King and his daughters, Jessica Madalyn and Jaylee Danielle, Ben D. King and wife Rachel; brothers, Bob King and wife Reba, Lewis King and wife Gwen, Richard King and wife Debbie; sister, Carolyn King Ashley and husband Bobby, Judy King Lang and husband Robert; aunt, Althea King Cornelius; uncle, Albert King; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Doris and James Shaffer; brothers-in-law, Jamie Shaffer and wife Nova, Tony Shaffer and wife Frieda; sisters-in-law, Sherry Shaffer, Susan Shaffer Creger and husband George; numerous very special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 8 pm at Antioch Baptist Church, with Rev. Brad Davis officiating. Committal service will be on Saturday at noon at Glenwood Cemetery. Nephews and special friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. Military honors will be presented at the graveside service. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family would like to say a special thanks to the Mountain Home VA, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Harmon's office, and the Bristol Regional Medical Center MICU staff.
