Bernice Davis

Bernice Adkins Davis WISE, Va. Bernice Adkins Davis, 90 passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Wise. She was born Dec. 1, 1918, to the late Jim and Nannie Pannell, and was a member of Central Freewill Baptist Church in Norton. She was preceded in death by seven brothers; and three sisters; her first husband, Boyd M. Adkins; and her second husband, Walton L. Davis. She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hale (Jay), Wise; one son, J.C. Adkins, (Judy), Fredericksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Pamela Hale Kroll, (James), New York City, Kenneth Hale, (Tammie), Wise, Amy Kile, (Bill), Bumpass, Va., and Tracy Erdman, (Tony), Spotsylvania, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Leeanna Hale and Brandon Hale, both of Wise, and Jennifer Dumire,(Greg), Ruther Glen, Va.; one great-great-granddaughter, Gabriella Dumire; four stepchildren, Elaine Wright (Jay), David Davis (Linda) and Mike Davis, all of Bristol, and Linley Davis (Linda), Roanoke, Va.; several step-grandchildren. Visitation for Bernice Davis will be held Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, after 5 p.m. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., with Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Burial will be Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Temple Hill Memorial Park. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday and leave in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Central Freewill Baptist Church, 700 Kentucky Ave., Norton, VA 24273. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Hale, Brandon Hale, David Davis, Jay Wight, Ray Pannell, James Kroll, Linley Davis and Mike Davis. Arrangements by Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn, Va.
