Clarence Edward Browning

Clarence Edward Browning LEBANON, Va. Clarence Edward Browning, 92, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010. Born in Chelyan, W.Va., on Sept. 2, 1918, he was the son of the late Garrett and Rebecca Hartman Browning. He served his country in the Army during World War II. A retired Appalachian Power maintenance supervisor, he was a member of Spring City Baptist Church and a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 251. In addition to his parents, his sister, Josephine Gilson; brothers, William Calvin Browning, Samuel G. Browning and Roy Clayton Browning; granddaughter, Susan Denise Hughes; and brother-in-law, Charles Buddy Withrow also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Violet Withrow Browning; daughters, Patsy Kay Hughes and Kim Marie Browning, both of Lebanon, and Mary Ellen Browning of Sullivan County, Tenn.; grandchildren, Gregory Scott Hughes of Lebanon, Jennifer Ellen Hughes of Johnson City, Tenn., and Ashley Marie Watts of Roanoke, Va.; great-grandson, Sean Michael Hughes; special niece, Judy Bird of Indiana; and a special nephew, Buddy Withrow of Huntington W.Va. Numerous other nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to thank Home Nursing Company of Lebanon, Dr. Yousuf and Angela Coleman for the compassion shown and excellent care given to Mr. Browning. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Scott Suttle officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. before the service. Owens Funeral Service, Lebanon, is in charge of arrangements.
