He was born in Lebanon, Va., the son of George M. and Sylvia Puckett McCloud. After graduating from Lebanon High School, Bud enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning home to Virginia, he was employed by the Virginia Department of Highways, where he worked for 45 years. He served as a deacon for over 40 years and was active at the Brumley Cove RA Baptist Camp. He had a special place in his heart for children and was affectionately know as "the candy man" by the children who attended Midway Baptist Church. Bud's sense of humor was well known and he never passed up an opportunity to tell a joke or tease someone. He participated on the Lebanon baseball team and was well respected for his ability to play second base and his aggressive playing style. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Freeda Bartley McCloud; four sons, Michael and wife, Linda, James and wife, Brenda, Danny (Butch) and wife, Barbara, and Jeff and wife, Shannon; three daughters, Susan Griffith and husband, Billy, Liesa Estep and husband, Dan, and Christa Shannon and husband, Casey; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim McCloud and wife, Betty; and two sisters, Peggy Page and Betty Jo Coley and husband, David. He is also survived by special friends and neighbors Ron and Joan Harrington, Roger and Peggy Duff and the Midway Baptist church family. The family would like to express a special thank you to the emergency room and ICU staff of Franklin Woods Medical Center for the kindness shown and tender care given to our father. My grandfather tried his harderst to help me, at times i showed the same stuborness he portrayed, now realizing i should have took all his advice to heart. He always knew what was best for me and now while grieving his loss i hope to change my life around and live by his example. I know he will never get the chance to meet my future wife and little one thats on the way, but i know he will be watching over us and seeing our family grow into the family he would have been proud of, using his advice and everyday examples. Papaw you will be greatly missed, but im glad your no longer in pain and have joined your father in heaven. You will always hold a special place within my heart.

Dear McCloud family & friends, As my eyes filled with tears I believe that on 01/06/2011 their was a massive celebration in heaven upon Buds arrival. I am sure that the Lord was pleased with the way he had lived his christian life here on earth.
I was one of those "children" many year's ago at Midway that's heart was forever touched by Bud. I am so glad that months ago I took the time to express the love and appreciation to Bud and his family for the solid christian role models that each represent in my heart.
Freeda and family, May God the father wrap his loving arms around each of you, providing comfort and strength in the days ahead.

With love in christ,
Sherry Sutherland Grizzle
