Emmett L. Steffey Sr. GLADE SPRING, Va. Emmett L. Steffey Sr., 88, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at his home. He was born in Russell County, Va., son of the late Ben and Nellie Salyers Steffey. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Bonnie Steffey; one daughter, Betty Jo Steffey Woodruff; and one son, Ronnie MacArthur Steffey. He was a retired miner and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He is survived by his wife, Vileta Steffey; six daughters, Penny Trent and husband, Roger of High Point, N.C., Brenda Davis and husband, J.R. of Wallins Creek, Ky., Cathy Passmore and husband, Gary of Archdale, N.C., Trecia Booher and husband, Ricky of Trinity, N.C., Lesa Lovejoy and husband, Jeremie of Fredericksburg, Va., Leona Shew and husband, Charlie of Lebanon, Tenn.; four sons, Randall Steffey and wife, Carol of Denton, N.C., Arnold Ray "Bo" Steffey and wife, Patricia of Rural Retreat, Va., Emmett Steffey Jr. and wife, Sherry of Trinity,, Wesley Steffey and wife, Betty of Castlewood, Va.; three stepdaughters, Leona Mullins and husband, Larry of Castlewood, Anita Boyd and husband, Jerry of Castlewood, Sonia Winebarger and fianc‚, Jock Fields of Dante, Va.; four stepsons, Michael Earl Winebarger and wife, Lisa of Trammel, Va., Joseph L. Winebarger and wife, Gay of Conover, N.C., Robert C. Winebarger and wife, Julie of Dante, Thomas S. Winebarger and wife, Elaine of Castlewood; 22 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; 29 step-grandchildren; 29 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special dog, Thomas. Funeral services for Emmett L. Steffey Sr. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, with Rev. Bill Hensley and Rev. Sam Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be Scott Davis, Roger Trent Jr., Jason Steffey, Ben Steffey, Robert Winebarger, and Aaron Fields. Honorary pallbearers will be Jock Fields and Jerry Boyd. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood.
