ERNEST ELMER HUMPHREYS

Ernest Elmer Humphreys ABINGDON, Va. Ernest Elmer Humphreys, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born March 10, 1929, son of the late George Hendricks Sr. and Annie Glass Humphreys, in Meadowview, Va. He was a graduate of Meadowview High School; had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; and was an avid golfer. He worked for N&W Railroad and retired from Raytheon. He was a member of Abingdon Masonic Lodge No. 48 A.F.& A.M and attended Abingdon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Bowers Humphreys; brothers, Glenn, Delmar, Paul, Leonard and George Humphreys Jr.; sisters, Lila Virginia Humphreys, Gladys Faye Humphreys, Betty Lee Humphreys and Jean Yuhasz. He is survived by daughter, Barbara Joyce "BJ" Graham and husband, Keith, of Pulaski, Va.; one very special grandson, Bryce Graham of Virginia Tech; sisters, Lavinia Cullip, Phyllis Price and husband, C.W., of Abingdon, and Bertha "Bert" Parsons of Meadowview; sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Humphreys of Lynchburg, Va., and Lois, Mary Ann and Phyllis Humphreys of Abingdon; and a special friend, Donna Bailey. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Private committal services will be held at Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Humphreys, John Humphreys, Phillip Humphreys, Rick Humphreys, Steve Parsons, Rob Cullip, C.W. Price, Matt White, and David Allen. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Prater, Joe Booth Jr., Mike Humphreys, Elmer Hay, Ranny Humphreys, Mark Humphreys, Kenny Boardwine, Jim Cole, Jim Yates, Bill Webster, George Yuhasz, Bill Ferguson, Logan Allen, Lewis Smithers and friends of Raytheon.
