Goldie M. Harris Ball HONAKER, Va. Mrs. Goldie M. Harris Ball, age 83, of the Grissom Creek section, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at her home. Born Sept. 30, 1926, in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Jay Miles and Sarah Pearly Penley Harris. A lifelong resident of the Venia community, she was a member of the Austin Chapel Independent Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Sidney Howard; second husband, James P. Harris; one son, Scotty Howard; one sister, Lola Harris White; seven brothers, Johnny Warren Harris, Floyd Barney Harris, Walter Curvin Harris, Willie Harris, Rev. Worley Harris, Everett Harris and Frank Harris; one son-in-law, Dallas Harris; one great-granddaughter, Janice Alissa Reliford; and one great-grandson, Hunter Timothy Howard. Survivors include her husband, Hurley Ball; one son, Franklin Dee Howard and wife, Dianna of Abingdon; four daughters, Darlene Harris and her husband, Rev. Bennie Harris and Arettia Wilson and her husband, Harley all of Abingdon, Christine Harris, and Diania Austin and husband, Gregory all of Honaker; two half-brothers, Pleasant Harris and Lonnie Harris of Belfast; four half-sisters, Bonnie Austin of Drill, Betty Johnson of Lebanon, Maudie Harris, and Mollie Harris both of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank your to Dr. Faisal Chaudhry and his staff. Due to the inclement weather, the family has decided to postpone funeral services until 2 p.m. Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and honorary minister, Rev. Bennie Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Va. Pallbearers will be Elder Travis Davis, Emory Harris, Dwayne Harris, Jimmy Wilson, Timothy Howard and Christopher Howard. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m.Sunday.
