Guy Epling ABINGDON, Va. Mr. Guy Epling, age 93 passed away on Thursday Nov. 26, 2009, at Grace Health Care in Abingdon, Va. Guy was a former resident of Buchanan County (Grundy,Va.)where he was a well known businessman-- owner of Epling's Manufacturing Company-- He was a pioneer in the manufacturing of underground mining equipment for independent mining. Guy was responsible for building several Churches of Christ in Southwest Va.--He was a former member of Grundy Church of Christ where he served as an Elder for many years. After moving to Abingdon he helped build and establish the First Christian Church where he also served as an Elder. Guy built and installed several baptisteries in Churches throughout Southwest Va. Guy was the son of the late Jess and Georgia Epling, Breaks Va. He was born June 4, 1916. Guy was predeceased by sons Walter Darrell and Dallas Guy. Also, :brothers Evans, Fred, Claude, Ellis, Arthur and Albert; one sister, Mildred. Guy is survived by his wife Peggy; Daughter, Carol E. McGlothlin (Don Shumaker,Jr.); son David L. Epling (Pam); granddaughter , Martha McGlothlin Gayle (Al) ;great-grand children ,Jackson, Janie, James and Gordon Gayle; one grandson, Justin Grossfelt,; one stepson Lee Shortridge. Guy was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 28, 2009, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service located at 19415 Lee Highway Abingdon, Va., with Funeral services to follow immediately. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Old Jonesboro Road Abingdon, VA, 24211.
