Gwendolyn (Jo) Marr King Burriss Gwendolyn (Jo) Marr King Burriss, 91, died on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at Wellmont Hospice House. Mrs. Burriss was born on Oct. 26, 1919, in Anderson, S.C., a daughter of the late John David King and Grace Blanche McCoy King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Carpenter Burriss Sr.; and sisters, Cora Jane Bryan and Helen Major. She is survived by her son, William C. Burriss Jr., and daughter-in-law, Rose Marie Burriss; grandchildren, Theresa Lynne Burriss and her husband, James L. Werth Jr., and William C. Burriss III and his wife, Elizabeth; and four great-grandchildren, Charles Paul Stanley IV, Campbell King Howard, William C. Burriss IV, and Joseph McCall Burriss. She also is survived by Jacqueline Hutchins Cline, her caregiver and companion for the past 11 years. Mrs. Burriss moved to Bristol in 1957 with her husband and son, and remained in Bristol the rest of her life. She worked as a volunteer at Bristol Regional Medical Center for over 25 years and was a member of First Baptist Church. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2010, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Stancil and the Rev. Timothy Keeney officiating. Visitation with the family will follow immediately in the fellowship hall of the church. A private burial service will be held on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 116, Bristol, VA 24203. To the Burriss Family,

Bill, Rosie and family may the Lord bless you with His grace and peace which passes all understanding during this time. Granny Jo was a very special person and I have many fond memories of her.
