Helen H. Gerhardt MENDOTA, Va. Helen H. Gerhardt ,91, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Greystone Healthcare Center. She was the daughter of the late John Horton and Rosa Pearl Reed Horton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Gerhardt; sister, Eliza Janie Wampler; brothers, George and Levi Horton; and nephew, Donald Wampler. Helen was a member of Mendota Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She also had a special love for the many poodles she had throughout the years. Survivors include nieces, Joretta Hutton and husband Roby of Blountville, Tenn., Phyllis Meade and husband Wayne of Bristol Tennessee, Betty Digwo of Mason City, Iowa; several cousins, and one special great niece, Brenda Vanover, whom she called her little girl. At her request, a private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev.Brandon Cole officiating. Arrangements especially for Mrs.Gerhardt and her family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
