Hiram "Jack" Mahon HAYTERS GAP, Va. Mr. Hiram "Jack" Mahon, age 75, formerly of Patterson, Va., passed away Mon day, Nov. 9, 2009, in a Johnson City, Tenn., hospital. Born June 1, 1934, he was a son of the late Nath Mahon and Sadie Cline Mahon Hatfield. He had lived in Buchanan County area until moving to Hayters Gap in 1994. He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Island Creek Coal VP No. 1 and was a member of the UMWA Local 1509. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Sutherland; one son, Lonnie Mahon; three sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Easter Boyd Mahon of the home; two sons, Tommy Mahon and wife Birchie of Patterson and Arthur Mahon and wife Lisa of Harmony, N.C.; one daughter, Misty Cantrell and husband Josh of Hayters Gap; six grandchildren, Nathan Sutherland, Erica Mahon, Nichole Snead, Trey Mahon, Zach Mahon, and Isabelle Cantrell; one brother, Bud Hatfield of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Joyce Hatfield of Oma, W.Va., and Kate Daniels of Richlands; son-in-law, Ralph Sutherland of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Va., with Rev. Hobert Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Va. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
