Jack Preston Stevens MEADOWVIEW, Va. Jack Preston Stevens, 72, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at is home. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and was a son of the late Irby and Ora Steward Stevens. Jack served in the U.S. Army with the military police where he was stationed all over the world and was a member of the Bristol V.F.W. He owned and operated Wheeler's Marina, had worked for Debusk Petroleum and retired from Bank of America. After his retirement, he worked at Miller's Market and Food Country. Jack was a loving, outgoing man, who always wanted to help everyone and had many friends. He loved being outside, he loved gardening and fishing, loved to travel and was a John Deere man through and through. Jack was a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church and attended Lebanon United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Lala Herndon Stevens; daughters, Ginger Yeary and Pamela Johnson both of Coeburn, Va., and Kelly Thomas of Abingdon; sons, Michael Storie and wife, Ellen of Saltville, Va., Rodney Storie and wife, Brenda of Broadford, Va., and Eric Storie and wife, Linda of Marion, Va.; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren including his special angels, Chloe and Dominic Lamie; brother, Charles Allen Stevens and wife, Charlotte of Abingdon; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean Crane and Lonnie, Sandra Orfield and George "Bud" Herndon; niece, Donna Wise and husband, Greg of Abingdon; special cousins, Juanita Thayer and husband, Wayne and Howard Poe and wife, Judy; his little buddies, Ittsy and Happy and many other friends and family members. The family would also like to express thanks to special friends Patsy Robins and Dot Creasy, all caregivers of Hospice of Southwest Virginia and members of Lebanon United Methodist Church for all their love and support. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2010, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veteran's Honor Guard. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Lebanon United Methodist Church, c/o Suzanne Orfield, 30099 Rivermont Dr. Meadowview, VA 24361 or to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 301 E. I'm not sure any of you will remember us, but we will never forget all the kind things Jack did for us to help us get started in our married life 41 years ago. We have lost touch over the years, but the love we feel for Jack will never go away. May God bless all of you.
