James Garrett LEBANON, Va. James Garrett, age 72, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at his home. Born April 6, 1937, in Russell County, a son of the late Everett Garrett and the late Ella Carpenter Garrett, and the husband of the late Shirley Street Garrett. James was a retired employee of the V.D.O.T. with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Bascom United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kyle Garrett; two brothers-in-law, Roscoe McCracken and Edwin Johnson; a nephew, Danny Garrett. Survivors include his son, David Garrett and wife Connie, Lebanon; one granddaughter, Jessie Renee Garrett, Lebanon; three sisters, Ada Boardwine and husband John and Nina McCracken, all of Lebanon, Marie Johnson, Kingsport, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Doris Garrett, Lebanon; also several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Ken Meredith officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, in the Ketron Memorial Gardens. Those attending are requested to meet at the funeral by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. Jeffrey Garrett will serve as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bascom United Methodist Church, 5784 Green Valley Road, Lebanon, VA 24266. Combs Funeral Service, 291 Fincastle Road, Lebanon, VA 24266, (276) 889-4444 is serving the Garrett family.

i am so sorry to see james has passed away i worked with shirley for many years at the factory and all she talked about was james and her children i feel like i know them well to nina and doris so sorry for your loss you all are in my thoughts take care love donna
