John Ralph Whitt RICHLANDS, Va. John Ralph Whitt, age 84 passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Hill Creek Assisted Living in Richlands with his family and friends by his side. Born July 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Birt and Ocie Whitt. He was a Navy World War II veteran. He was also a retired coal miner for Clinchfield Coal Co. Local 7950. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Mildred Whitt; four brothers, Arnold, Bill, Gerald and David Whitt; and one sister, Martha Barrantez. He is survived by three daughters, Ruby Dye and husband Cork, Brenda Lamie and husband Buster, both of Richlands, and Linda Pendry and husband Eddie of Walkertown, N.C.; four brothers, Lonnie, Floyd, Donald and Bert Lee Whitt; one sister, Patty; six grandchildren, Doug and Chris Dye, Melissa Bullion, Jamia Motsinger, Angie Oder and Brad Lamie; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Condle Whitt, Doug Dye, Chris Dye, Josh Dye, Erik Burks, Austin Burks and Brad Lamie. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640. Those attending the graveside service are requested to meet at the cemetery mausoleum by 1 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by going to www.singletonfuneralservice.com Singleton Funeral Service is serving the Whitt family.
