Joseph Warren McGhee JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. Mr. Joseph Warren McGhee, 87, passed away Wednesday April 21, 2010, at his residence. Mr. McGhee was a native of Washington County, Va., who had lived in Johnson City since 1955. He was the son of the late John D. and Myrtle Wilson McGhee. In addition to his parents, his wife, Opal McGhee; one son, Terry Lynn McGhee; six brothers; two sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. McGhee was a U.S. Army World War II veteran in the 725th Military Police Battalion. He retired from Sprint after 30 years of service. Mr. McGhee was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Rhea Lodge No. 47 and was a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include: three daughters, JoAnn Smith and her husband Donnie of Johnson City, Norma Jean Curtis and her husband Allen of Piney Flats and Leesa Garland and her husband Mike of Nashville; one son, Joseph W. McGhee Jr. and his wife Pam of Knoxville; one brother, Leon McGhee of Bristol Virginia; two sisters, June Young and her husband Jim of Oak Ridge and Sandra Eleste of Baltimore; eight grandchildren, Leslie Blair and her husband Charles of Johnson City, Scott Smith and his wife Susie of Wallkill, N.Y., Todd Smith and his wife Priscilla of Johnson City, Ricky Curtis and his wife Michelle of Piney Flats, Tiffany Curtis of Piney Flats, Matthew Weaver of Nashville, Tyler Scalf of Nashville and Logan McGhee of Knoxville; one step-grandson, Michael Garland of Nashville; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, 120 East Chilhowie Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601. The funeral service for Mr. Joseph Warren McGhee will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Carole Martin will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends in the Morris-Baker Funeral Chapel from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
