Louise Emmert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 1, 2009.
Louise Denton Emmert BRISTOL, Tenn. Louise Adeline Denton Emmert, 91, passed on Monday morning, Nov. 31, 2009, at JMH. A lifelong resident of the Bristol area, she was the third oldest of David Watson and Nancy Gifford Denton's eight children. She was married to Ernest O'dell Emmert, a well-known principal of Weaver's Elementary who died in 1974, with whom she had three children. She is also preceded in death by her oldest son, Donald O'dell Emmert; her second husband, Jack E. Bailey; as well as her parents and several siblings. As a young bride during World War II, she lived in the Emmett Post Office with her children, saving half of the $200 sent home every month from her Navy husband. When he came home from the South Pacific eighteen months later, she'd saved $1800 as a down payment on their family farm on V.I. Ranch Road. A homemaker all of her life, she was stubborn and thrifty, but she never let a person go away from her home hungry. Devout in her religion, she followed the faith at Cold Springs Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her siblings, Mamie Lee Lowe of Baltimore, J.B. Denton of Bristol Tennessee, Marsha Ringley of Bristol Tennessee,, and Jack Denton of Denton, Texas.; two children, Imogean Kirby and her husband Chuck of Aberdeen, N.C., and J.B. Emmert and his wife Susan of Martinsville, Va.; one daughter-in-law, Nell Marie Emmert of Abingdon, Va.; and three grandchildren, Donnamarie Emmert of Abingdon, Jason and Justin Emmert of Martinsville. Special thanks must be given to her long time caregiver, Mary Blevins, and Alta Hughes. Dr. Andrew Spence and Rev. Howard Taylor will officiate at the 1 o'clock graveside service at Shipley Cemetery on Wednesday, Dec. 2,. Weaver's Funeral Home (423-968-2111) is in service of the Emmert family.
