Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Eller, Rev. Floyd Nelson, Rev. Ronnie Blevins and Aaron Lundy officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the funeral service at the church. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, in the Cleghorn Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church, Missionary Fund, 295 Cleghorn Valley Road, Marion, VA 24354. Pallbearers will be grandsons and friends. Sheriff David Bradley will be an honorary pallbearer. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie.

Both Marvin and Huey Long were as much like as uncles to me as they were colleagues and friends. They were what the old, true, real Columbus McKinnon was made of. I've never known a finer man than Marvin - he's somebody I owe that I can never repay.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. Marvin was a very nice and friendly man. I had the pleasure of knowing him and his wife and children years ago through girl scouts. It created a lifelong acquaintance because Marvin knew you where ever he saw you. It was always great to talk to him. Your family has been blessed by such a kind spirit, and my heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow. May God give you comfort.

Marvin -

You slipped away from us so quickly. We did not know your time was coming to an end. You changed so many lifes over the years - especially mine in your friendship, love, and words of wisdom. You and Brenda brought into this world three BEAUTIFUL daughters, each a blessing in their own unique way. For many years you shared your gifts and family with other young girls through your many years of work with the Girl Scouts. You helped train us for the future, and provided us warm hugs whenever the world seemed too hard for us to handle, or in celebration when accomplishments were achieved.

You taught us to be strong and to BE PREPARED for whatever life might through us - and to remember that God is there to provide us that strenght. You have and continue to be one of God's angels to us all.

Marvin, you were too young to leave us. You still had so much to share with the world and with the grandchildren your daughters and son-in-laws blessed you with. I know, for you have been a blessing to me.

Yet, none of us know when our time on earth will come to an end -- and we need to be prepared in our hearts to go whenever we are called. And I am confident that you were.

Ghee --- I am going to miss you! Even if I have not been nearby over the past several years, I have always known that your big loving arms would always be willing to provide a hug whenever the chips were down or whenever a celebration was in order.

Marvin --- I CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE and what a blessing you have been to us all.

See you later!

Love,

Sara
