Mary Alice Browder KINGSPORT, Tenn. Mary Alice Browder, 83, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, 2009, at Asbury Center at Baysmont after a brief illness. She was born in Sullivan County where she resided most of her life. Mary Alice retired from the Sullivan County School System in 1992 after over 30 years of service as a math teacher. She taught at Holston High School, Sullivan High School, Dobyns-Bennett, Colonial Heights Junior High, Sullivan Central High School and Sullivan South High School. Mary Alice was active as a coach/sponsor of the Scholars Bowl. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Circle 2 and other church activities. In addition, she volunteered as a long-time cook for Meals on Wheels. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Browder; son-in-law, Eddie White; and sister, Annie Laurie Dickson. She is survived by her daughter, Martha White of Kingsport; son, Marty Browder and wife Alice of Kingsport; grandchildren, John and Jason White, Charlie, Jack, Susannah, and Sam Browder; great-grandchildren, Haley, Allison, Drew, Riley and Levi; sister, Dorothy "Dot" Hawk of Blountville; one niece, Kitty Hawk Loewen; one nephew, Jim Hawk; several great-nieces; and a great-nephew. `The family will receive friends on Thursday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church from 5 to 7 p.m. `A graveside service officiated by Rev. Jack P. Weikel will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. `Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. `The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1346, Kingsport, TN 37662; or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 7268, Kingsport, TN 37664. `The family wishes to express a special thank you to the staffs of Preston Place and Asbury Center at Baysmont for their compassionate care. `Please visit hamlettdobson.com for online condolences.
