Matt Cooper Obituary
Born April 7, 1949, in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Clayton and Goldie Charles Cooper. He was retired from Island Creek Coal Co., VP No. 1, and was a member of the Blackey Church of Christ, where he served as deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hassel, Bobby "Eddie" and Adam Cooper; and three sisters, Jeanette Justus, Virginia "Toosie" Potter and Joann Sullivan.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Tiny" Cooper, Hurley; two sons, Mark Cooper and wife Connie, Hurley, and Chad Cooper and wife Devin, Hurley; two grandsons, Austin and Tyler Cooper; one granddaughter, Kamryn Cooper; and one sister, Agnes Smith, Hurley.
Funeral services for Matt Teddy Cooper will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, 1 p.m. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel at Grundy, with evangelists Mike Rife and Rick Stiltner officiating, with burial to follow in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Danny Cooper Justus, Brian Davis, Bill Christian, Eric Estep, Terry Miller, Tommy Blankenship, Edgar Tester and Bobby Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Hurley High School varsity boys basketball team, Terry Hensley, Timmy Potter, Dorse Tester, Wendell Roberts, Danny Blackburn, Clarence Brown Jr., Earl Tester, Frank Justus, Lacy Tester, Earl Tester and brothers of the Blackey Church of Christ.
Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of arrangements.

Tiny,Mark and Chad,Wow not real sure what to say except that Teddy was a godsend and I do not think there is one person that he has come in contact with that can say nothing but good things about him . I remember having a conversation with him one time and I asked him what he thought and he told me some words of wisdom that I can remember him telling me and he was right , he was always so kind and so patient with evryone and everything he will be missed dearly. Tiny,Mark and Chad, Wow not really sure what to say except that Teddy was a godsend and he was the most kind and caring person that I have ever known. I remember coming up there to Maws house and Teddy and I were talking about something I was having a hard time tryin to understand and Teddy being Teddy gave me some wise words of wisdom that day and I have never forgotten them and I think about what he told me sometimes and he was right he knew what he was talking about. I am really going to miss him but I know he is up in heaven right now with paw probably saying wow Bascom look at all these people coming out to remember me, you would have thought I was an NFL ball player that just made it into the HAll OF FAME !!
