Millard Kermit Farmer JEWELL RIDGE, Va. Millard Kermit Farmer, age 85, passed away Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, in a Richlands, Va., hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dungannon, Va., and was the son of the late Jonas Lee and Lou Osborne Farmer. He had made his home in the Jewell Ridge area for over 60 years and was the co-owner of Farmer Brothers Coal Company and was the outside sales clerk for Sears of Richlands for 29 years. He was a graduate of Dungannon High School Class of 1943. He was a former member of the Tazewell County Planning Commission, Cumberland Plateau and Airport Authority, Richlands Area Chamber of Commerce having served as president, and the Tazewell County IDA. He was actively involved on the Eastern Coal Council and the Jewell Ridge Recreation and Development Corporation. He was a former member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge No. 318 AF & AM. He was a member of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church where he served as superintendent of Sunday school, ruling elder, and the clerk of the session. He was also a past moderator of the Abingdon Presbytery. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mozella Katherine Ratcliffe Farmer; one son, Daniel Richard Farmer; and three brothers, Arthur, Earnest, and Clarence Farmer. Survivors are: one son, Millard K. "Sonny" Farmer Jr. and wife, Cynthia of Jewell Ridge; one sister, Beulah Peters and husband, Harlan of Weber City, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Jeff Farmer and Brigette Farmer Brown; three great-grandchildren, Brianna Kaylee Brown, Ashley Paige Spencer, and Adrianna McKynleigh Smith; two step-great- grandchildren, Amber Elswick and Noah Elswick. Memorial services for Millard Kermit Farmer will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Shirley Keen officiating. Graveside services will be Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with dinner to follow at the home of Edward and Trish Farmer at Jewell Ridge. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
