Newlyn Baker Barrett HONAKER, Va. Mr. Newlyn Baker Barrett, age 75, of the Clifton Farm Road section, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at his home. Born Feb. 12, 1934, in Honaker, Va., he was a son of the late Benjamin and Pearl Sauls Barrett. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He resided in the Cleveland and Berea, Ohio, for 36 years, retiring from Avery Dennison Corp as a Journeyman Pressman, and returning to the Honaker area in 1994. He was a member of Parknoll Baptist Church of Berea, Ohio, and Swords Creek Community Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Beavers, Mildred Duff and Mary Lou Bouchet; and two brothers, Benjamin Franklin Barrett Jr. and Kenneth Barrett. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Helton Barrett; two daughters, Lillian "Renae" Lowe and husband, Brian of Honaker and Susan Gezumalla and husband, Mark of Litchfield, Ohio; six granddaughters, Cindy Witt and husband, Coy of Pounding Mill, Amanda Metcalf and husband, John of Belfast, Mellisa Gezumalla, Julie Gezumalla, and Tori Gezumalla of Litchfield, Ohio; one grandson, Scott Baker Schneider and wife, Shana of Honaker; three brothers, Raymond Barrett and wife, Mamie of Abingdon, Donald Barrett and Bob Barrett and wife, Doris all of Honaker; one sister, Frances Justice and husband, Bob of Honaker; five great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends also survive. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Russell County Medical Center, Russell County Hospice, the Girls at Independent Home Health, and C-Health. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Monday at the Swords Creek Community Baptist Church in Swords Creek, Va., with Pastor Chris Musick officiating. Interment will follow in the Barrett Family Cemetery at Honaker, Va. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Swords Creek Community Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Earnest Henry, Dr. K.C. Lewis, and Dr. Norman Rexrode. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Sunday.
