Pauline Phillips Odum Pauline Phillips Odum, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 22, 2010. She was born February 22, 1916 in Volney, Va., to the late John B. and Cora Gwaltney Phillips. Mrs Odum was a homemaker and a stay at home mother. She was a lifelong resident of Bristol Tennessee, Virginia and a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends and neighbors. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. "Muss" Odum in 1964; her sisters, Mabel Anderson and Gwendola Williams; and brother, Greer Phillips. Survivors by five children, son, Marvin E. Odum and wife, Densie of Chuckey, Tenn.; daughters, Shirley Rhoton and husband, Frank of Bristol Virginia, Paula Shaffer and husband, Lyle and Linda Johnson Surber all of Bristol Tennessee, and Judy O'Brien and husband, William of Mountain City, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barbara Clark officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m., Monday in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lyle Shaffer, Frank Rhoton, William O'Brien, Darin Shaffer, Jeff Johnson, Michael O'Brien and Josh Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry May, Christopher Ward, Larry Anderson, Jim Bateman, Darrell Phillips, Jonathan Fields and Bruce Howlett. The family will receive friends from 5 7:30 p.m., Sunday prior to the service at Akard Funeral Home. Email condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected] Akard Funeral Home, 1912 W. Judy, Paula, Linda, Shirley and family,
I am so sorry for your loss, and joyful for Heaven's gain. Your Mom was one of the best, unique and rare. So very sorry I missed out on saying farewell to her, for now. Love and prayers for every one of you.

Moumou was such a special woman. You could talk to her about anything. She would do anything for anyone and that meant so much to everyone. She used to call me a "nasty, rotten, good-for-nuthin' youngin'" and I knew how much she loved me. She will be greatly missed, but we will see her soon!
