Raymond Allen West KEEN MOUNTAIN, Va. Raymond Allen West, 81, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Mayfair House, Cedar Bluff, Va. A native of Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Harry and Hazel Jackson West and is survived by Betty Hay West, his loving wife of 59 years. He retired from Island Creek Coal Company. He was a member of the Keen Mountain United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and committees. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. West was a 54-year member of the Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17, Grundy, Va. He served the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Master. Mr. West was an avid golfer and had formerly served as a board member of the Tazewell County Country Club and the Columbia Clinch Valley Hospital. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his sons, Russell (Rusty) and wife ,Janie Crigger West, of Keen Mountain, and David and wife, Rebecca Barnett West, of Tazewell, Va., and his daughter, Robin and husband, Will Kelly of Johnson City, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Amy and husband, Phillip Humphreys, of Abingdon, Va. and BreAnna West of Tazewell and fianc‚ Cole Lusk of Falls Mills, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Ella and Elizabeth Humphreys of Abingdon; sisters, Geraldine and husband, Paul Spraker, of Richmond, Va., Kathleen Beavers of Bluefield, Va., Shelby and husband, Don Matney, of Keen Mountain, Judy and husband, Billy Abernathy, of Lincolnton, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010, at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, with the Rev. Tom Witten and the Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Russell West, David West, Don Matney, Billy Abernathy, Jerry Hay, Randy Williams, Bill Foley and Alvin Ritchie. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Spraker, Will Kelly, Phillip Humphreys and Cole Lusk. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain, Virginia. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7 P.M. by Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the staff at Mayfair House and Legacy Hospice for their loving care and concern. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Center of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, 207 N. To the west family, Donna and I are so
sorry for the lost of Raymond, sorry we
could not be there, we just found out on line this morning which is the 20th of
