Rebecca P. "Becky" Mercer ABINGDON, Va. Rebecca P. "Becky" Mercer went to walk with Jesus April 9, 2010, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee. She was a former resident of Roanoke and had lived in Abingdon for the past 46 years. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. Becky was well-known for her knowledge as a clothing coordinator and seamstress, having been employed by Maxine's, Jay Carsons, Virginia Gentlemen, Adam and Eve, and Helen's Fashions. Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Issac and Esther Peake; her husband of 62 years, James R. "Rudy" Mercer; her daughter, Joan M. Saunders; her granddaughter, Christy M. Remines; her brother, J. Kenneth Peake; and her sister, Carol Hall Atwell. Survivors include her daughter, Linda M. Remines of Abingdon; her granddaughters: Joan R. Hall and husband Dayrel of Abingdon, and Jane R. Greenough and husband Jeff; and her precious great-grandchildren, Julie Anne, Aaron James, Ethan Jeffrey and Asher Preston Greenough of Charlottesville, Va.; her sister, Edna P. Eller of Mt. Airy, N.C.; her brother, Charles G. Peake and wife Nancy of Hampstead, Md.; her sister-in-law, Betty Peake of Marion; and her special brother-in-law, Carl E. Atwell,Jr. of Marion. A celebration of "Becky's" life will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Walter Weikel, Rev. Carl Young, Rev. Jeff Radford, and Pastor Dickie Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 6:45 before the service at the funeral home. Commital and burial will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. The family would like to thank Trula Crigger for her loving care and dedication throughout the years.
