Roy Allen Hurd NICKELSVILLE, Va. Roy Allen Hurd, 69, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn. He was born in Russell County, Va., son of the late James Walter and Nannie Bell Marshall Hurd. He was preceded in death by a son, David L. Hurd; one sister, Virginia "Jenny" Robinson; two brothers, James Robert Hurd and Mack Hurd. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bernice Hurd; five daughters, Carolyn Meade and husband, Tommy, of Nickelsville, Va., Lillie Marie Osborne and husband, Randy, of Nickelsville, Va., Clara Dean and husband, Billy, of Nickelsville, Va., Teresa Begley and husband, Jeff, of Nickelsville, Va., and Patricia Hurd ; two sons, Roy Allen "Jay Bird" Hurd Jr. and wife, Gail, of Castlewood, Va., and Lonnie Walter Hurd of Nickelsville, Va.; one sister, Evelyn Helbert of Castlewood, Va.; two brothers, Ray Hurd and wife, Irene, of Castlewood, Va., and Edward Hurd and wife, Mary, of Rensselaen, Ind.; t10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Roy Allen Hurd will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Va., with Rev. Orbie Porter, Rev. Buddy Burke, and Rev. Doug Trent officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Helbert Cemetery, Castlewood, Va. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession leaving for the cemetery at 10: 30 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Johnny Mullins, Robert Mullins, Bret Helbert, Carl Helbert, Jay Helbert, Ernie Hurd, Terry Gilbert and Harold Jennings. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Mullins, Bert Mullins, Glen Porter, Brandon Helbert and Ike Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.
