Russ V. Greer LENOIR, N.C. Russ V. Greer, age 97, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Valdese Hospital in Rutherford College, N.C. He was a native of Whitetop, Va., and had lived in Konnarock, Va., for several years prior to moving to Lenoir for the past 32 years. He was retired from Brunswick Corporation and was a member of the Helton Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Dolinger Greer; and two sons, Randall Greer (infant) and Sidney Herman Greer. He is survived by four sons, Charles "Billy" Greer and his wife, Ann, of Lenoir, Paul Greer and his wife, Fay, of Chilhowie, Va., Carroll Greer of Lenoir, and Tony Greer and his wife, Cindy, of Granite Falls, N.C.; six daughters, Anne Pennington of Green Cove, Va., Jean McCall of Lenoir, Judy Miller and her husband, Ray, of Lenoir, Carolyn Alexander and her husband, Lloyd, of Damascus, Va., Jackie Baldwin and her husband, Larry, of Hudson, N.C., and Marilyn Taylor of Bristol Tennessee; one brother, Ezra "Slick" Greer and his wife, Jean, of Abingdon, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great- great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caretaker, Peggy Wilson. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor David Bean and Pastor Sam Craven officiating. The committal service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Azen Cemetery in Konnarock, Va., with Pastor Paul Puett and Pastor Dwayne Dillard officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral service at Garrett Funeral Home.
