I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Thelma, I have known her for several years and she was a precious jewel. My step father called on her several times when he and his mom had health issues with immediate needs and every single time she came right away. She was always so kind and caring to everyone and she will be greatly missed by many.

To Lou ~ It's been a long time since I last saw you but I sincerely hope that you find comfort in knowing what a strong bond your mother and your family has with the community.
As my Aunt Lula already said, we are all part of a close knit circle that is family and Belfast.
Be well and take comfort in knowing your mother touched many lives.

Susie and Sammy- I've been sitting here reading the many, many kind words said about your dear Mother, wiping away the tears. I can't find the words to express my love for Thelma, nor the love she and my Mother shared over the many years. I can still hear her voice as she'd mimick me, saying "well, Felll-ma!". I would have been about four of five years old at the time. The last one who might have told us anything about our family is gone now..but what wonderful memories we still have. Would love to hear from you all.

Louis - You told us your mother was in the hospital and had been very ill, but we were still surprised to see her obituary. She was one of those people who was so alive, it is hard to imagine the world without her. She was an enormous help to public health when I was health director in the early 1970's and always a pleasure to see. Our sympathy and prayers, Joanna and Russell Owens

To Miss Thelmas's family - I am so sorry for your loss. She was a very special lady - opening her home to several of us (students at SVCC) who boarded away from home during the early 1970's. Thru the years those of us who were blessed to have stayed with her have never forgotten her caring/generousity/selflessness. She was a remarkable lady and we could all learn much by modeling our own lives after hers. May God Bless and comfort you during these trying times.

To all the Family,
I'm sorry to hear about your Mom, I know you will miss her so. She was my good friend and mentor and I had the pleasure of working with her in 1973 and 1974. Prior to that, she was my brother's nurse and she took the best care of him. I learned so much from her and she had the best solutions to any problems that arose along the way. I listened and learned, thank you Mrs. Ballenberger for caring about us all. She was so proud of me when I graduated from Dental Hygiene School and my Mom and I went by to see her when I came home. She said, " I knew you could do it." She always had love in her heart, wisdom to guide, the desire to help others.
Rest in Peace, my dear, sweet Thelma.

With heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Ballenberger's family. This kind, caring and extrordinary lady nursed my many cuts and bruises when I attended Honaker Elementary School. It was just as close to having "MOM" at school everyday. I have never had the privilage of meeting any of her family, but, I am quite sure they inheritied the same traits that Mrs. B possessed. may God comfort you today and all the days that follow.

I want to tell you all what an angel your Mother was to the young children at Honaker Elementary School. It didnt matter if you were wealthy or poor she never made a difference in the kids. She took care of the poor kids by providing medical assistance ,food clothing and any other things they needed.I just wanted to let you all know she was a saint in many peoples lives, you all can rest assured that there is an angel in heaven watching down on all of us now.

You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Ballenberger was so nice and friendly and I always enjoyed talking with her. My Dad-Estel Herald had the Rosedale Esso and she would buy gas and had her car taken care of at the station. I will always remember her.

Dear Sam & family,
Doug and I are so saddened to read of the passing of your dear and precious Mother. Not only is she at the top of the list for being the best nurse, but also as the most wonderful, kind and special person in the world. She had a heart of gold and so giving of herself not only to patients in the hospitals but to everyone she met. Her sweet disposition will be with us always. We hope memories of her and her life will turn into treasures for you and your family. May God give you comfort in this time of sorrow.
Love to you and the family.

Sincere sympathy to Thelma's entire family. I heard my mother (Nellie Settle Hankins) often speak of Thelma, a person very special to all who knew her. All 12 children born to Ezra and Nellie (Settle) Hankins were born near the foothills of Beartown Mountain. All families from that area were very close knit, many intermarriages among those families, including my own ancestors. My Aunt Sarah Settle married Charles Taylor; my Aunt Rosa Hankins married Charles Taylor---sons of Lafayette "Fade" Taylor. The Belfast community has lost a rare person, certainly to be missed by all.

Dear Family,
Whenever I think of Lebanon General Hospital, Dr. WC, Dr. James (Elliott) and Mrs. Ballenberger is always a part of that memory. I remember being a patient there as a little girl, and she was the so kind to me. I will always remember her. I pray that God will comfort you all during this time of loss.

Dear Susie,Louie and family
I am very saddened to learn of the going home of my dear friend and mentor what a wonderful and graceful lady and the best nurse in the world. She taught me so much when I started workin with her as a new graduate nurse in 1968 she took me under her wing and demostrated to me that kindness and love was the best medicine that you can give to a patient and their family. I thank God that I had the privilage to know and work with her. I loved her dearly. I'm sure that she is reunited with Mrs Va Watkins,Mrs Margaret Hankins, and Mrs Andy Kiser and the Elliott Brothers and they are taking care of everyone. Earth loss is Heavens gain, my prayers are with you and I pray that God will give you the strength and peace that only he can. God Bless all the family.
