Thomas Jackson "T.J." Leonard Jr. Dr. Thomas Jackson "T.J." Leonard Jr. , 92, died on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Bristol Virginia. He was a son of the late Thomas Jackson Leonard and Cordie Stone Leonard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Gardner Leonard; and by a sister, Jane Sanders. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He received a B.A. from King College in 1939. He then went on to do graduate work at Southwestern University in Memphis, Tenn., and then graduated from University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1949. Dr. Leonard practiced dentistry for 40 years in Bristol until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Community Church of Bristol. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Linda Roberts and husband Gary of Bristol Tennessee; and Lou Ann Webb and husband Warren of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; son, Thomas Jackson Leonard III of Dallas Center, Iowa; niece, Sandra Sanders and husband Rick of Charlotte, N.C.; nephew, Douglas Jackson Sanders and wife Lynn of Charlotte; and six grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, Nov. 7, 2009, at Highpoint Cemetery, with Rev. John Cowell officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Linda Roberts, 34 Whitehall, Bristol, TN 37620. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Bristol Humane Society, P.O. Box 1586, Abingdon, VA 24210; Healing Hands, 210 Memorial Drive, Bristol, TN 37620; or to the charity of your choice.
