Willis Compton DAVENPORT, Va. Mr. Willis Compton, age 92, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, in a Lebanon, Va., hospital. Born July 25, 1917 in Buchanan County, Va., he was a son of the late Bryant and Bertha Hess Compton. A lifelong resident of the area he was a minister and deacon at Big A Mountain Primitive Baptist Church. He was a coal miner and heavy equipment operator and a member of the Moose Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Delaney Rose Compton; and two sons, Damon Compton and Daniel Compton and four brothers. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include two sons, Phillip Compton of Davenport, Va., and Jewell Compton of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and one daughter, Phyllis Fisher of Johnson City, Tenn; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Garnell Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Compton Family Cemetery at Hurricane Creek, Va. Pallbearers will be Keithel Breeding, Mike Breeding, Wayne Rasnake, Leck Ray, Harper Compton and Arville Deel. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Russell County Medical Center and the staff and residents of Mountain View Nursing Home in Lebanon, Va. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Sunday where an evening service will be conducted at 6 p.m. with Elder Bobby Arrington officiating.
