VIRGIL COLLINGS Obituary
Einan's Funeral Home
Rip was born May 6, 1924, to Leonard and Ocie Collings in Stella, Missouri. He passed away at age 86 on February 16, 2011, at Tri-Cities Retirement Inn. Rip came to the Tri-Cities area in 1948 to work at Hanford. He and his wife Dorothy had (3) children Jimmie, Shirley and Barbara and made their home in Richland.
He worked as an ambulance driver and patrolman at Hanford until he went to work for Exxon Nuclear in 1971 and was promoted to Manager Plant Security. Rip retired in 1986 and found great enjoyment living, fishing and gardening with his second wife Wilma near O'Sullivan Dam. He moved back to Pasco in 1989 where he grew an amazing vegetable garden and took time out for fishing and a daily 5 mile walk along the Columbia River. His family looked forward to fish dinners served with every vegetable from his garden.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Wilma, son Jimmie Collings in Denver, daughter Shirley Haskins (Dennis) in Richland, daughter Barbara Collings in Pasco, stepson Bruce Collings and Rip's brother George Collings in Springdale, Arkansas. He leaves behind grandchildren, Jamie Collings (Mark Kling), Dustin Collings, Lindsay Gailey (Brad), Kelly Haskins and Adriana Collings and great-grandchildren Wyatt Gailey, Keaton Kling and Kameron Kling. He was proceeded in death by his parents, (5) brothers and stepson Alan Collings.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Avalon Rehabilitation Center, Tri-Cities Retirement Inn and Hospice at the Chaplaincy for their wonderful care and concern. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice at the Chaplaincy, the Alzheimer's Association or the Richland Baptist Church building fund.
A memorial service will be held at the Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011.
