EDNA BRASFIELD Obituary

EDNA M. BRASFIELD Edna M. Brasfield, a long time resident of Richland, Washington, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 10, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, WA. Born in 1922 in Rockhampton, in the state of Queensland, Australia, Edna was swept off her feet by the young and charming Roy Brasfield while she was working at an airplane instrument shop, Australia National Airways in Brisbane, Australia at the height of WWII. The two were married July 25, 1944. They moved back to the U.S., settled in Richland, WA, where they raised three children. Edna worked at the Bon Marche in Richland and at Columbia Center for over 22 years. She had a life full of family, friends, work, and hobbies, all with the most caring, positive attitude that touched everyone around her. In her early years, growing up on a sheep ranch, she developed a great work ethic. One of her jobs was as a seamstress in Australia. Sewing was a skill she continued into adulthood, making dresses for her two daughters into their junior high school years, and continued sewing for family and friends. She played tennis for most of her life, loved swimming, exercising at 'the Club' and was an elegant water skier with her "Step Start" slalom routine. Edna loved playing bridge, baking, reading, and socializing with friends. Another passion was gardening; while in Richland she had beautiful gardens, was a member of the Rose Association and received numerous awards for her colorful landscaping. Oh, and she never missed Dancing with the Stars! And lately, during her time at Village Green, she became a bingo addict. Edna really gave life a "shake!" Edna was blessed with great friends and family who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy, who passed away in 2007. She is survived by daughters Marilyn Brasfield, Cindy Ducich (Dan), and son, Scott Brasfield; five grandchildren, Stephanie Owen (Scott), Christopher Mulligan (Shawnta), Ali Ducich, Stefan Ducich, and Michelle Brasfield; and five great grandchildren Wesley, Spenser, & Grant Owen, Liam & Riley Mulligan. There will be a celebration of her life held at the Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club on Sunday, December 27, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Everyone who shared the fun of life with Edna is invited to attend. The family will announce a grave side service in the spring of 2016 to be held at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Richland, Washington.

So shocked and sad to hear of Edna's passing. She was a wonderful friend to my mom, Elsie, who died last week. We couldn't bring ourselves to tell her.
Thank you for the joy you brought into mom's life, Edna.

My Aunty Edna . Missing you . I remember your first trip to Brisbane in the 60's . You were full of life . My mother Jessie has asked me to also send her condolences . They chatted often over the phone . Never got to visit her although she hounded me all the time . Will make an effort to visit her family in the next 2 years

A great Aunty loved her visits to us in Australia and my visits to her in the states. Sad to learn of her passing, had I know she wasn't well we could have visited her, when we were there, in November. Loved and always remembered

Edna was such a wonderful friend to my mom. They visited across the street almost daily and she loved going along to the Hanford House for dinner. Already was missing her. The neighborhood has really changed. My thoughts are with you all.
