JANE WILES Obituary

Pasco, Wash.

Jane Wiles, 60, of Pasco, passed away on February 14, 2011, in Richland. She was born Jane Carol Shaw to Albert and Molly Shaw on July 19, 1950, in Biloxi, MS.

Being the daughter of a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, Jane lived in many places all over the world while growing up, including Japan and the Philippines. Although she will profess she was a 'southern girl', she has spent the last 30 years in the state of Washington. She married Jonathan Wiles on August 9,1982, in Longview, WA.

Jane received her bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama and her master's degree from Auburn University. She could never lose when the Alabama teams were winning football. She studied and received her degrees in education, but spent many years exploring various other career opportunities, from owning a bar to working in nuclear power plants.

Jane finally returned to education in 1990 and when her family moved to the Tri-City area in 1993, she began working at Hanford High School. She worked in the Special Education Resource Room for 18 years while at Hanford. Jane's one true passion was teaching. She was tough when it came to holding a student accountable, but always went the extra mile to encourage and help those young men and women who wanted to learn. Jane was involved with many student clubs, including Junior Statesman of America, Knowledge Bowl, and People to People. She loved a good adventure, and spent the last 10 years traveling to Europe and Australia every summer with high school students.

Her mother Molly, father Albert, and brother David precede Jane in death. She is survived by her husband Jonathan, daughter Emily and her husband Eric, son William and his fianc{e'} Megan, daughter Elizabeth and her husband Matt, siblings Bill and Pat Nelson, Jim and Marla Nelson, Carol Nelson, Nancy Nelson, Myra Fawcus, mother Mary Shaw, and granddaughters Justine and Juliet.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held March 5, 2011, at Einan's Funeral Home Event Center from 2 until 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Jane was an exceptional teacher and a true blessing for our sons, Brooks and Scott, while they were at Hanford. Her positive encouragement and assistance with study skills ultimately helped Brooks earn a mechanical engineering degree from WSU. She introduced Scott to Knowledge Bowl and the Jr. Statesmen of America, which inspired his interest in national and world politics. He earned a Masters degree in Diplomacy and International Relations and is currently working in the China Program at the National Defense University in Wash. DC. We believe Jane had a profound impact on our boys and many other students. What a laudable legacy! We extend our deepest sympathy to the family. Candace and Joe Devary
