Daniel Abrams Obituary

ABRAMS, DANIEL ALBANY - Daniel Abrams 85 passed into eternal life Saturday evening at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albany he was the son of the late Irving and Jean Gettleman Abrams. Daniel is survived by his wife Julia Susko. Daniel was an avid fisherman enjoying fly fishing, and tying his own flies. He loved teaching and fishing with his grandchildren. Daniel was active in Spring Little League when his son David was playing. Daniel attended the Coney Island Vocational School, where he studied to become a carpenter and millwright. He was a master craftsman and was a member of Local #117 in Albany. While working out of Local #117 Daniel worked on the South Mall, the Dunn Memorial Bridge, the Ravena Cement Plant, and the Hilton Omni Hotel. Daniel was one of 6 carpenters to be selected to work on the former Union Railroad Station which was converted into Fleet Bank Headquarters. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving as a motor machinist and also trained as a deep sea diver during World War II serving on the USS Battleship Nevada BB36. Daniel is survived by his loving children Sandra Ann Lewis (Robert) of Pittstown, Diane Abrams (Brian Marcinkiewicz) of Clifton Park, Kathleen Sheffer (the late Robert) of Grafton and David Mark Abrams (Emily Stachewicz) of Clifton Park. Daniel was the brother of Sandy Tepher (Chuck) of Conn., and the late Ruth Landau and he is also survived by his Brother-in-law of Joseph Landau of Florida. Daniel is also survived by 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Daniel will be held on Wednesday at 11 am from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third Street, Troy with Rev. Ken Gregory, Pastor of Saint John Francis Regis Church in Grafton officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm. Interment Capital City Cemetery. Contributions in Daniel's memory to either the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 495 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 or the Lymphoma Society, 5 Computer Drive West, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205.
