Paul Bond Obituary

BOND, PAUL WATERVLIET - Paul A. Bond, 72, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2011 at the Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy, NY, Paul was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Neary Bond. He was a 1958 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy. It was at CCHS that he met and fell in love with Patricia Barone and the two were later married on October 1, 1961. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Paul was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and served his country aboard the aircraft carriers, USS Leyte (CV-32) and USS Essex (CVS-9). Following his naval service, he was honorably discharged and returned home. Initially he was employed by the Behr Manning Company and later joined the Capital District Transportation Authority where he worked as a bus driver for a number of years before being promoted to the position of supervisor. Paul was a gold member of the Watervliet Lodge of Elks #1500, the VFW and the AOH. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. Paul and Pat enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland, which they did on several different occasions to get in touch with Paul's Irish roots. For the last several years they enjoyed spending two months out of the winter in Florida with their dear friends from this area and with the new friends they acquired in Florida. The greatest joys in Paul's life were his daughters, of whom he was so proud and who were so dedicated to him. In addition to his daughters, Paul's granddaughters were the light of his life. Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia N. Barone Bond; his loving daughters, Dana Bond of Dallas, TX and Megan Bond and her husband Joseph Careccia of Latham; his cherished granddaughters Camryn and Cassidy Careccia; his brother and sister, Peter Bond (Donna) and Eileen Bond as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his canine friend, Murphy. Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Rose Conroy and his brothers, John and Joseph Bond. Funeral from the Parker Bros. Memorial 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Tuesday at 9:15am and at 10 am in the Shrine Church of St. Anthony of Padua, Troy, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mario F. Julian, OFM. Interment will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 8pm. To remember him in a special way, Paul's family suggests making a donation to St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church, 28 State Street, Troy, NY 12180.
